'Weight Belts? Should you wear one? The short answer...maybe, but not likely. All too often we see gym goers wear a belt through every workout for every exercise. Yes, they hold their place but for most of us, they aren\'t needed. Even if you have back issues and think it\'s helping you, a belt is likely hindering you and only causing more limitations or progressing old ones. Shown in the video, Trainer Corina is lifting a significant amount of weight relative to her body weight and max weight she deadlifts. She\'s trained, her body is functionally ready for the load and her core is strong. Once you reach this point, a belt can further help you along to improve your strength. Most of us, aren\'t here. We have weak cores from sitting at a desk all day, herniated discs, pinched nerves, or some other issue that should be addressed FIRST. Wearing a belt won\'t fix you. Temporarily you may feel ok, but in the long run, that disc will still be bulging and you\'ll still have back pain. Not to mention, using a belt for most that aren\'t trained, takes off work that should be required from your core, primarily your abdominals. One should know how to brace their core without assistance before finding ways to take over that function. One should also work on form and technique before ever considering a belt. Don\'t let the ego get the best of you, lower your weights, learn the lifts, be able to connect your mind to your body in every lift...do the prep work and you\'ll see how much further you can go. Safely. Even competitive lifters, you won\'t see them wearing a belt for every rep. It\'s a tool to be used for near max reps to take your training over the edge. Train smart!
